This is an English translation of 新たらしい憲法のはなし (the story of the new Constitution), which was published by the Ministry of Education shortly after the postwar Constitution was promulgated. It explains the whats and whys of the new Constitution in simple language for middle-school children — including how this new Constitution differs from the wartime Meiji Constitution. As such, it is a lucid explanation of the thinking at the time — thinking that all too many people seem to have forgotten.
